For example, when I think of a lifelong love partnership, I can come up with many images, none of them being the Mandarin ducks (the traditional feng shui representation of love & marriage). This is because I have no cultural or emotional connections to this image. However, for many Chinese people, the image of Mandarin ducks will genuinely speak of devoted love because there is strong cultural lore connected to this image. This means that approaching feng shui in an intelligent way and with a good dose of healthy discrimination is the cornerstone of successful feng shui work.
When you see the homes of wealthy people, the number one thing that you actually see is open space. An abundance of open space. Strange, no? Rarely do you see wealthy houses full to the brim with all sorts of stuff. It is the luxury of open space and plenty of breathing room that attracts more wealth energy. In feng shui terms this basically means there is open space to allow more and to enjoy more. To create more, explore more and be more.

Below is a helpful colour wheel that demonstrates the Feng Shui relationship between colour and mood. In Feng Shui, when a practitioner refers to a colour chart, they generally are referring to the colours associated with each life area of the pakua. In addition to the specific life areas and colours, each of the nine sections of the pakua also has a corresponding element and direction.
To the uninitiated, feng shui can feel a little esoteric, but if you take the time to dig into the philosophy behind it, you'll find out that it's not only based on simple common-sense practices that make our homes healthier and more organized, but it also reveals how connected we are to our homes—and in turn, how they can affect our mood and well-being. In practicality, feng shui should feel no weirder or less intuitive than spring-cleaning or decorating a comfortable home.
And then there’s the pillow situation. A welcoming bed has soft blankets and enough pillows for two people. Piling on too many pillows makes your bed feel too crowded and cluttered, according to feng shui experts. Finding the right kind of pillow will depend largely on your sleep position. For example, if you sleep on your back, you’ll want to get a thin pillow to support your neck. (Going too thick will throw it out of alignment).
The bat is considered an auspicious classical Chinese feng shui symbol of good fortune and prosperity. Find out why the bat came to symbolize prosperity, and decide if this is a feng shui symbol you should go for. Interpretations of symbols are always a complex endeavor, as it all depends on the culture you grew up in or the culture you feel most comfortable in. In classical feng shui applications, bats are symbols of wealth.
Directly connected to the concept of a clutter clear space is clear organization. If you do not have an organized house, chances are you will start quickly accumulating clutter again. Each item in your home deserves a space of its own, no matter how small; this makes for a peaceful house with strong and clear energy. Think about it and look for the best organizational systems you can find; there is an abundance of them out there, from Ikea to California Closets and everything in between (Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, The Container Store, etc).

The Golden Rooster or the Red Rooster is a lucky element for those who want to obtain a promotion. On the other hand, it is beneficial when placed in the office because it balances the energies, it improves communication and it helps to establish new contacts and relationships. Chinese people like to decorate it with lucky coins and to place it in the north or south side of the office.

To maintain the peacefulness of your bedroom, keep it a work-free zone. That means keeping any work-related materials off of your night tables and moving your laptop and phone away from your bed. We know—this can be difficult in today's age of working from home, particularly if you live in a tight apartment. “If you're limited in space and must work in your bedroom, be sure your work area is as far from the bed as possible, and use a screen or plants to hide the area at night,” says Olmstead.

In Feng Shui, we use the “commanding position” to locate important furniture such as your bed. The bed is arguably the most important piece of furniture to put in the commanding position because you spend so many passive hours sleeping! To place your bed in the commanding position, you want to be facing the door while not in line with the door while lying in bed. Ideally you can be diagonally across the room from your bedroom door. However, I understand this is not always possible. In that case, find a mirror and place it so that you can see the door while lying in bed. I suggest freestanding mirrors, as they’re easier to move around and get just right.
The only stress I really have IS the insomnia. However, it seems to be resolving a bit at a time. I thought I read that it was bad to have your feet facing the area of the toilet, especially the bathroom door. My feet face a bit to the side of the door, but I can see part of the bed from the bathroom. I’m glad I was mistaken on the wall! Thank you!
Feng Shui carefully melds the finest tastes and styles that traditional Chinese and Japanese cuisines have to offer into original fusion dishes created by its renowned chefs using only the freshest ingredients. The result is a rich palette of dishes, including special seasonal offerings, presented in beautifully selected porcelain for our customers to choose from.
Think back to your twin bed or futon in college. Would you still want to be sleeping in it? We didn’t think so. Cho says getting a full or queen size bed is ideal for feng shui because it fosters a restful night of sleep and lets chi circulate properly beneath it. It also creates a sense of togetherness between you and your partner (or future partner!). By comparison, twin beds can feel constricted and impermanent, whereas king size beds can be too spacious to promote intimacy. Plus, going oversized often means split box springs under the mattress, which can create disharmony, not to mention cause issues with your back, Cho says.
Are You using A feng Shui Compass. Its crucial to know which sub direction your house is facing so that you can select the right flying star chart for your home. Lets say your house is facing south. A flying star charts for a  house facing south 157.5 - 172.5 will be totally different from that of a house facing south 172.5- 202.5. So will be the distribution of luck.
It’s time to start a new Pinterest board. According to feng shui principles, Cho recommends opting for a sturdy headboard, preferably a wooden one, with no bars or holes on it. “The headboard keeps you connected with your partner and stabilizes you in bed. Not having a headboard makes your relationship feel more temporary,” Cho says. And if you’re single, a sturdy headboard can help attract a strong and secure relationship, proponents believe. If buying a new headboard isn’t in your budget right now, some feng shui experts suggest adding two large pillows behind your sleeping pillows. This makes for a comfortable and soft DIY “headboard” in the meantime. But Cho warns, “It’s better to have a headboard if at all possible. If you can’t afford one, then you can try the pillows but it’s not a substitute for a solid headboard.”
So, the point I am emphasizing here is that for anything you bring into your home to work as a feng shui wealth cure  (or any other cure, for that matter), the item has to have a strong energy connection to you, and not to what other people say. If you do not like something, guess what – it does not like you back! Hardly a good feng shui energy dynamic. Next feng shui wealth color is purple and, just like with gold color, you can bring it with a variety of decor items. From painting to pillows, rugs or big book covers – see if this wealth feng shui color can be genuinely welcomed into your home. Use both colors tastefully and wisely, meaning create simple beauty and decorate with objects that you really like – this is how they will start working for you as intended.
Experts have mentioned that the dragon turtle can also neutralize the negative energy from the annual Flying Stars, particularly the #2 and #5 stars. Further, others have mentioned that it can cure the bad Feng Shui caused by two doors facing each other. To use it, simply place it somewhere in between those two doors, whether that be two bedroom doors within a house or two front doors of two different houses.

Design tweaks include reducing the numbers of mirrors on the wall, and positioning beds away from facing the door—both concessions to feng shui (the former bounces energy, creating restlessness; the latter is the position of the dead). — Mark Ellwood, Condé Nast Traveler, "How Chinese Tourists Are Changing the Travel Landscape," 2 Nov. 2018 My own perception of feng shui revolts against the number of doors—that many egress routes can’t be restful. — Alexandra Lange, Curbed, "A museum grows in Houston," 1 Nov. 2018 The life coach starts with a decluttering exercise followed by a feng shui session before ending with the blessing. — Katie Jackson, Fox News, "What is a house blessing and should you have one?," 1 Mar. 2017 The manicured grounds, which include two outdoor fireplaces, fountain features and a koi pond, were done by landscape architect Mark Rios and feng shui consultant David Cho. — Neal J. Different schools of feng shui have opposing views on mirrors in the bedroom, but Cho says having round or oval mirrors actually symbolize continuity in a relationship and helps with the flow of chi in the room. Many feng shui experts advise against having a mirror directly in front of your bed because it may cause infidelity in a relationship, and it might also be jarring to see your reflection if you wake up in the middle of the night. Instead, you can position a full-length mirror away from your bed, so that you can see a reflection of the door and who’s entering. Or, stash that looking glass on the inside of your closet door.
Times change—20 years ago, people saw yoga as a strange practice with no tangible physical benefits. Since then, we've been so widely exposed to its positive effects both on the body and mental health that it's become as mainstream as green juice. Similarly, the ancient Chinese spatial laws of feng shui in houses have only proliferated, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Marie Kondo among its most recent enthusiasts.

An old feng shui remedy for finances is to hang a mirror in the dining room so that it reflects the dining table. The dining table is a symbol of a family's abundance since meals are served here to nourish and support the family. A mirror will double abundance. Just be sure that the mirror doesn't reflect an exterior door or opportunities and money will be bounced right out of the house!
I’ve read conflicting information of the best body alignment during sleep. I would like to start following Feng Shui and am incorporating what I’ve read in my BR layout. How should one align his or her body during sleep? Head facing the North pole (or avoiding that direction)? Also if I “must” have a mirror in the BR, ok to cover it during sleep? Thanks!
When choosing bedroom furniture, opting for pairs can be especially harmonizing. "Two nightstands (one on each side of the bed) is recommended" for optimal feng shui, explains Cerrano. "They symbolize balance and equality in Western feng shui practices." If the layout of your bedroom doesn't allow equal space for this particular arrangement, one side table will do, reassures Cerrano.

"The front door is very important in feng shui," says Benko. After all, it's the main portal through which energy enters your home, remember? From the outside, she suggests "think of the chi as a first-time visitor trying to find your home—you want to make sure it's clearly lit, well-marked, and the address visible." On the inside, you want to make sure you're not walking directly into a wall—"it can metaphorically make you feel like you're up against a wall every day," she says.

7. Let there be light. When lighting your bedroom, flexibility is key. You want lots of natural light during the day, soft light in the evening, and darkness while you sleep. Exposure to sunlight first thing in the morning influences your serotonin levels and can affect you for the rest of the day. When choosing your light, make sure to provide a variety of sources, include overhead, table, and wall lighting.
Being thoughtful about how you arrange and use your bedroom is especially important. It's where you sleep, and adequate amounts of quality shut-eye are vital to health and well-being. If you share your home with a spouse or partner, note that a bedroom with good feng shui is thought to strengthen the bond between a couple and attract love. Two of the sneakiest drains on your finances are leaky faucets and toilets that leak or run all the time. Invest a few dollars to replace the system in your tank if your toilet doesn't drain and fill up properly. If faucets leak, replace worn washers or other plumbing parts. When you have leaky faucets and toilets, your finances are being syphoned off with unexpected expenses or a constant out flow of income and resources.
