Make sure you have something representing the five elements — wood, earth, metal, fire, and water — in every room. The goal is to stay grounded, centered, and balanced in your life and your environment. For example, place a wooden bowl filled with stone pebbles alongside a candle and a vase of flowers. Or try to incorporate colors that symbolize the five elements:
Make sure the yin and the yang are represented in equal measure. This doesn't mean that your room has to look like a sterile hotel room; the goal is to make it welcoming to both genders. Balance a floral quilt with a leather trunk at the foot of the bed, or pair a pile of embroidered pillows with a Pendleton wool throw across the bottom of the bed.
4. Declutter. From a feng shui perspective, clutter symbolizes unfinished business and impedes forward progress. Keep your furnishings to only the necessary pieces and keep clutter contained to allow chi to flow freely around the room. Clutter under your bed has its own type of energy that can disturb your sleep as well. This “less is more” approach applies to your closet too. Make sure your closet is clean and organized, which will help you give you a sense of control over your life. Add plants in the corners of your space to help prevent energy from stagnating there.
"Not a single thing!" Brophy says. Because every item has its own energy, the more stuff that's piled under the bed (even if it's just extra bedding!), the less space there is for your own energy to pass through while you sleep. This can be a tough one, especially if you're lacking in the square footage department, but Brophy swears this is helpful to everyone, and particularly recommends it for people who have difficulty sleeping.
"You should always be able to control the level of light in your bedroom," Brophy says. She recommends having lights on a dimmer, so you can have exactly as much or as little light as you want. "Lighting has such an effect on our moods and energy. I tell people to buy a few different kind of light bulbs and test them out," she says. "See what kind of light works best for you."
WALKING into Judi Longo's apartment in Chelsea is like sinking into a cloud, all soft and white and light. Candles line the window sills and sit on the kitchen counter. Every piece of furniture is white; even the roses in the living room are white. It hasn't been delivered yet, but soon a white sofa will take its place in the living room. Oddly, it doesn't feel dull at all, but clean and welcoming, much like the new building, 21 Chelsea, on 21st Street between Avenue of the Americas and Seventh Avenue, where she is renting the one-bedroom apartment, on the 12th floor, for $2,750 a month.
3. Show off your curves. When choosing bedroom furniture, try to pick pieces with soft lines and curvilinear forms. Square corners have pointed energy and can create a sharp environment. The “poison arrows” formed by right angles are thought to direct negative energy directly to your sleeping form. To create a more “zen” night stand, limit what you place on the surface. Keep it simple with a lamp, a few inspirational books, a picture, and a plant or fresh flowers.

I was once in africa where noise was always a problem including bedrooms that broke all the laws you hav elisted here. I had a problem sleeping the irst few weeks but I finally got used to it coz i had no where else to go. If the brain realises that there is no solution BI can tell u from experience that it will take on anything.
This can be tough if storage space is at a premium, but avoid storing anything under the bed. "Whatever is below will rise above," says Cerrano. That means you don’t want to store things under the bed that may trigger an emotional response, like bills or mementos from loved ones. Linens and things of that nature are considered neutral, so feel free to store those underneath if needed, but Cerrano notes, “Ideally we want the energy to flow under and around the bed unobstructed.”

“When it comes to choosing bedding, go with something that feels good and that you’re drawn to,” Cho says. “I recommend getting organic cotton sheets whenever possible because they’re toxin-free and breathable. No one sleeps well if they’re too hot or too cold,” Cho says. Softness matters, too. The general rule is that the higher the thread count, the softer the sheets. The National Sleep Foundation recommends going with a thread count between 200 and 400. (Though, in the summer, you’ll want the thread count to be on the lower end to help with airflow.)
Some say that sleeping above the kitchen stove brings bad energy that disturbs sleep and creates health issues. Though I do not disagree with them, what I do know is that your bedroom’s temperature may be higher than normal, caused by the cooking activities and the heat given off from the back of the refrigerator. Because the optimal temperature for sleep is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit, you may be losing on some quality sleep.
Finally, the health and vitality of your houseplants mirrors the health and vitality of everything in your life, including your finances. This means that if one of your houseplants is struggling, do your best to revive it, and if you can’t seem to do so after a reasonable length of time, give it to one of your houseplant whisperer friends, or release it with love to a compost bin (trust me, it’s best for both you and the plant). And if you seem to have trouble with houseplants generally, you might try lucky bamboo. The recent celebration of Chinese New Year ushered in the Year of the Dog. The dog is an animal known for it’s loyalty, faithfulness and, especially, it’s ability to remain perfectly happy and content spending time at home with it’s family. In the spirit of Chinese New Year, here are some ancient Chinese feng shui home tips to help you remain happy and content at home by creating a perfectly peaceful and prosperous space.
Feng shui is so important to some strong believers, that they use it for healing purposes (although there is no empirical evidence that this practice is in any way effective) in addition to guide their businesses and create a peaceful atmosphere in their homes, in particular in the bedroom where a number of techniques involving colours and arrangement are used to achieve enhanced comfort and more peaceful sleep. In 2005, even Disney acknowledged feng shui as an important part of Chinese culture by shifting the main gate to Hong Kong Disneyland by twelve degrees in their building plans, among many other actions suggested by the master planner of architecture and design at Walt Disney Imagineering, Wing Chao, in an effort to incorporate local culture into the theme park.
6. Find beauty in your accessories. In your bedroom, feng shui suggests hanging your favorite pieces of art on the wall opposite your bed. This way it’s the last thing you see before you go to sleep and the first thing you see when you wake up. Your artwork should be something that makes you feel joyful and inspired. If your direct view from the bed is your bathroom or messy closet, screen those views with curtains or simply by closing the door. Another item you don’t want to place opposite, next to, or over your bed is a mirror. In addition to bouncing too much energy around the room to allow for a good nights rest, these reflective surfaces are thought to magnify problems and worries.
Find out your Kua number and your lucky directions so that you can be energized by good energy from your best or lucky feng shui directions. Use these as a guide to adjust the position of things like your bed, your desk, or the seating in your dining area. For example, if your Kua number is 1, it is best to face one of the following directions: Southeast, East, South, or North.
We have a master bath attached to our bedroom. The only way to place our bed ends up with our feet facing the bathroom wall (not the door itself) It is way too tight of a squeeze to put any furniture at the foot of the bed, and we can’t afford a tall footboard. Even if we could, it would squish my hubby, because his feet almost dangle the way it is. There is a dresser against the wall adjoining the bathroom. I am super superstitious and found this fung shui by accident. Is this horrible luck, even if we keep the bathroom door closed? Everything else that I’ve read (and I’m not reading anymore lol) seems to be good in the bedroom. We can see the bedroom door well, and the head of the bed is not on the same wall with a closet, main door, or window. It also isn’t against the adjoining bathroom wall. It is balanced, and honestly, I love my bedroom. I have just recently started having major insomnia around 3 months ago, but we have lived here for 1.5 years with no issues prior. I’ve actually slept like a baby until this issue began. Thanks!
