If you’re looking for more abundance and prosperity, you can place 3 or 9 stalks in the wealth area of your home, office, or bedroom—or better yet, in all three locations. To locate the wealth area of the feng shui map, stand in the entry door to the home or room. The far back corner on the left side represents wealth, prosperity and abundance. The bamboo will represent positive and steady growth.

Natural and artificial lighting is one of the best and easiest ways to bring in the Fire element into spaces. After all, the sun is the ultimate Fire element. Windows provide a portal connecting our interior spaces with the exterior world, particularly natural light. Without windows, we would be living in a closed box that would be extremely dark and yin. In most floor plans, as many windows as possible are built into homes for this reason. We are generally drawn to light because the Fire element is life force to us. Our home is our refuge from the rest of the world. The proportion of windows to solid walls will determine how much of a sense of public exposure, which is yang energy, to privacy, which is a yin energy, we will have.

Although Cerrano advises embracing color, she also cautions against using too much of it. "You don't need to paint your entire room one of these colors," she explains. You'll still reap all the benefits of a hue if you incorporate it into your space sparingly. "You could have a neutral wall color (creme or beige) and accent your living room with noticeably warm colors through light sources, artwork, an area rug, or accent pillows," she suggests.
Once you have a compass and know how to read it, you'll take three readings of your home to be sure you correctly identify what direction the house faces. Three are done to verify accuracy within a few degrees of each other - no more than 15 degrees difference. If they are within range, you'll use the front door reading. If they aren't, you may have misread and need to take the readings over.

The shape associate with the Fire element in feng shui is the triangle. The triangle shape is three-sided and represents expansion in its highest expression. A triangle has three points, the third of which is a byproduct of the two points. When two people need expansion outside of themselves, they will seek a third point in the form of a child, a project, another person, or a cause. The number three is also associated with the Fire element in feng shui because of the triangular shape.

Most of us have televisions in our bedroom. It happens. If you have trouble sleeping it or even if you don’t, it is a good idea to cover the television when not in use. The active energy of the television as well as the electronic aspect of it may be disruptive to the type of calming quiet energy more conducive to sleep and bedrooms. My suggestion, find a beautiful scarf or fabric and just toss it over the television!

6. Restroom. Using a person’s Kua, the restroom can be BOTH a good and a bad place for plants. Plants in a restroom located in an “inauspicious” or “unlucky” area have the ability to amplify the negative energy of that area. On the other hand, for restrooms in “auspicious” or “lucky” areas, plants have the ability to amplify the positive energy, which can counter the negative feng shui brought by the restroom.

For a particularly small living room, Cerrano recommends hanging a mirror—but placement is everything. "Mirrors have the capability to 'expand a room' by making it look and feel bigger," she explains. "Just be mindful of what the mirror is reflecting, as it doubles the energy of whatever it sees," she cautions. You should also "select a mirror size that allows you to see your entire head, shoulders, and chest line to ensure you 'capture your aura,'" according to Cerrano.
Along with the need to balance the areas of the bagua with most appropriate art, it is also important to be aware of the subtle messages your art is sending. Is your art portraying a lonely person? Do you feel sad when you look at any specific images you have in your home? Be aware of the subtle energy your art is sending as this contributes to the quality of energy in your home. Be especially mindful of your choice of art for your bedroom.
The gray color is usually treated as either boring (dull gray!) or as a sophisticated, upscale color. No matter what you think of it, gray color can sure bring beautiful feng shui energy to any space, as long as you choose wisely. The feng shui bagua areas that most benefit from the energy of gray color are West (Creativity), Northwest (Helpful People), and North (Career).
General neglect. Some people's dining rooms are a dumping ground for mail, kids' stuff—just a mess that never gets cleared. And in some homes the room is totally ignored; no one ever sets foot in there. This depletes its energy, which makes it even less appealing. If you don't often use the room for meals, activate it in another way. Put a plant there so you're forced to come in and water it. Or bring your laptop in and use the space as an office.
