North area (Career or Path in Life). The feng shui element here is Water, so this is the feng shui area for items representing water, as well as Metal (Metal creates Water in the feng shui 5 elements cycle.) Without making it sound too complicated, you can place inspiring images related to your career in black or white frame colors in the North area of your home office.
For many years, Feng Shui colors have been considered to be powerful tools when it comes to creating the best environments. Whether you are an executive with a busy and demanding job, or if you are new to working in an office, there are many ways in which Feng Shui elements can help you to create a good office environment. Offices don’t often give many opportunities to use color, but using the elements, it is possible to create a more positive working environment.
This is consistent with the scientific findings mentioned above, where plants are used to increase the academic performance of high schoolers. The plant suggested by feng shui is the “lucky bamboo”, where four straight bamboos are placed in the Wen Chang area. You will find more details about this in the section below: Where to Place Indoor Plants.
Feng shui is all about being comfortable in your own space. Aside from the physical comfort that comes with following proper ergonomics, comfort can also mean keeping a clear mind and maintaining an organized lifestyle. When applying these feng shui ideas to your office, they create a stress-free work environment. This not only makes for a happier lifestyle, but will also keep you more productive at the office.
All shades of purple represent the fire element and at its most intense, its high vibrations create intense feelings of nobility, power and mystery. However, when the color is muted to lavender, it instead promotes an aura of calm as well as determination, clarity and imagination or creativity. This makes lavender an ideal color for media, technology or marketing firms. If the employees in your office are often tasked with developing new ideas, completing large projects, or doing any right-brain thinking, lavender can be a perfect color to help them maintain their composure, prioritize tasks, and have the focus to complete them in a timely manner.
When it comes to the link between colors and performance, Feng Shui distinguishes between tones which stimulate the mind (gray, white, and muted shades) and those that invigorate the body (brown and bright hues). For this reason, medium-toned wooden desks are considered the best office option as they provide optimal contrast and minimal distraction.
"Whether grown in an indoor patio, on a balcony, or outdoors, the orange tree will bring abundance into your home. It should be placed in your wealth or health gua. Citrus trees are believed to be very lucky. I used to have a grapefruit tree that grew so large, we could provide the entire neighborhood with fruit year-round. This is the true meaning of abundance: when you can provide enough for yourself and others."
"Once you have that initial question answered, ask yourself, how many pieces of functional furniture do I really need within my office? This helps weed out unnecessary clutter and guide you to utilize furniture that contributes to your productiveness and sharp focus when occupying that space." The feng shui expert notes that investing time in establishing an office environment that speaks to the level of respect, motivation, and growth you envision for yourself is one of the best and easiest ways to bring good feng shui energy to your space.
3. Turn your desk toward the door. Position your desk so you can clearly see the entrance of your office. "You don’t ever want to put your back to the door because that creates a subconscious feeling of vulnerability," says Benko. Besides being easily startled, not being able to see what’s coming can make you feel like you have have lost control. The best feng shui positioning is with your back against a wall or window facing the door, but not in direct alignment with it.
The color green falls under the wood element and symbolizes growth, energy, healing and new beginnings. The nourishing vibrations that green produces promote balance throughout the body and a calming connection to nature. This is why green is a color commonly used in hospitals and doctor’s offices. If the people in your office are under a lot of stress or have a heavy workload, this can be a great color to help them keep a level head.
4. Bedroom. In addition to the eight cardinal directions, the type of rooms also matter. Many experts agree that plants are NOT suitable in the bedroom, and their reasons vary. Some say it harms the luck and health of the home’s breadwinner, while others say that plants bring strong energies of growth, which contradicts with the energy needed to get a good night’s sleep. Further, some reasoned that the carbon dioxide produced by the plants at night can negatively affect our sleep.
Irregular room shape: Use a faceted crystal sphere, mirror, or plant to correct the space. If your office is extremely irregular, you can have inexplicable setbacks and continuous frustrations at work. If you can’t switch offices, you can apply the special nine green plants cure: Add nine healthy new plants to your space all on the same day. The plants should be purchased new for the purpose of this cure. If convenient, you can place the plants near particular irregularities in the room, such as strange angles, posts, cramped areas, and so on. Otherwise, just stick them where they fit best. For full results from this cure, visualize that your job and career are going very well.
Make sure that your desk or work space isn’t facing any sharp corners or edges. Such as pillars, other buildings or walls and so on. These sharp edges can invite in negative energy. They will cause migraines, headaches, pressure and unhappiness for yourself and others. Keep your desk facing a different way or try to put up a blockade or something between your desk and the sharp edge or corner if you can’t move it. If it is truly unavoidable and you feel uncomfortable, place a bowl of salt or a salt lamp between you and the sharp corners to minimize pressure and “Sha Qi”.
If you want your work to be noticed by the people who matter, fire up the South side of your desk with all things red! This is an ideal place to hang awards, accomplishments, or mementos of projects you are most proud of. (I hung a picture of my eBook’s cover here.) This serves as your font of power, building your confidence in the office will help you stand behind your proposals, and have the courage to propose them at all!
2. Generates Happiness. Multiple studies have cited that plants in the workplace increased employee satisfaction. Further, flowers are found to have the greatest impact. Research conducted at Rutgers shows that flowers have an immediate impact on happiness. The researchers were even shocked, because 100% of the people responded to flowers with a true or excited smile.
Decorating your office should be fun, but there should also be purpose behind it if you are planning on using feng shui to improve your business. Hang motivational artwork that encourages hard work and team collaborations on the northwest and west walls of your office space. The southwest area of your space, which is the area associated with relationships, on the other hand, should include a minimal amount of family portraits, which can otherwise be distracting. To generate more wealth, place plants in the southeast and east sides of the office, making sure the plants are tall and reach for the sky, such as bamboo. And if you prefer to keep live plants out of your office, you can go with silk versions or even photographs and artwork that will generate the same type of energy. And, finally, on the north wall, put up artwork, or add a small water fountain, that focuses on the energy of moving water. This will serve to energize your career.
"Feng shui emphasizes the harmony with one's internal and external environment and the world at large," he explains. "Creating this harmony is particularly important when assessing the color of one’s home office, the place in the home where wealth and abundance are of paramount importance." So how exactly should you choose the ideal feng shui office colors? Brown recommends answering one simple question: Which cardinal direction does your home office face?
There are three main schools of feng shui. Two are traditional (classical) Chinese feng shui schools, while the third is widely embraced by the Western culture, especially the United States. Regardless which feng shui you practice, you can take advantage of basic principles to enhance your career and make your office inviting to chi energy for greater success in business.
According to Feng Shui, desk size, material, and color all play a vital role in business results. For peak performance, the desk should be large enough to provide a comfortable work area but it shouldn’t stand out from the rest of the furniture. An adequately-sized desk symbolizes control and authority, but make sure it’s not too huge: if you can’t reach the corners, it means that your career is out of control.
