Improper lighting: Like the majority of office workers, if you suffer under fluorescent lighting, you can use a couple helpful hints. You may be able to replace the tubes yourself with healthier full-spectrum ones (also called “grow lights”) from the hardware store. If you can’t replace them, bring in some supplemental incandescent light in the form of floor or table lamps. Working solely with overhead light is uncomfortable for the eyes, and supplemental lighting is a source of relief for your eyes and mind.
Irregular room shape: Use a faceted crystal sphere, mirror, or plant to correct the space. If your office is extremely irregular, you can have inexplicable setbacks and continuous frustrations at work. If you can’t switch offices, you can apply the special nine green plants cure: Add nine healthy new plants to your space all on the same day. The plants should be purchased new for the purpose of this cure. If convenient, you can place the plants near particular irregularities in the room, such as strange angles, posts, cramped areas, and so on. Otherwise, just stick them where they fit best. For full results from this cure, visualize that your job and career are going very well.
So, there you have it, the basic feng shui color guide to help you create a happy and healthy home. Color is like music, nourishing and uplifting, and the more colors you harmoniously absorb throughout the day, the higher your sense of well-being. Do not be afraid to bring vibrant colors into your space, as color is light, and light is our number one nutrient.
You want to take command of your room and need to place your desk so you can see everyone who enters. This is the position of power and gives you control. If you hold important business meetings in your office and need to win over clients, coworkers and your boss, make sure you take the North sector of your office during the meetings. North is the controlling direction and whenever opposed by any other direction; the North is said to always win.

Can I have a plant inside my bedroom? The response to this question will vary from feng shui expert to expert. From a scientific perspective, the plant absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen at night. Why does this matter? When sleeping, this could a plant exception to the principle of ‘no plants inside your bedroom.’ Its advised not to add too many, as the purpose of plant metaphorically is to stimulate the energy. Perhaps one, maybe two, at the most and keep them at a distance from your bed.
If it’s ok to do this does the height of the cabinets make a difference? I’m considering some that are around 2 metres high, or alternatively some that are 128cm high (these will reach the top of my head or possibly my forehead when I’m sitting), or alternatively lower ones. All the cabinets will be the same height, whichever I choose, and will go along the length of the wall behind the desk.

If your working position (whether at home or in the office) is near or backed into a corner, place a small miniature plant in front of your table to bring positive energy to a stagnant area.  You will be able to work better and this will boost your health and stamina. Avoid cactus or any plants with thorns or too many flowers (this could be more of a hindrance than a help). Make sure you use real plants as fake plants can attract negative energy or even lower your current mood and self-esteem.

The entrance to your office is a key component of feng shui because it is what allows energy to flow freely into and out of your space. Therefore, making sure it is free of clutter is imperative. Also, the door to your office should open completely without anything getting in the way. These are the first steps you can take when applying the principles of feng shui to your workspace. The idea is that you will have your physical door wide open to welcome new clients, new work, and more money.

Cerrano also reminds us to think of function above all when planning your home office space. "Remember to take into consideration the function of the office, and become decisive with the type and amount of furniture that is needed. This will save you time, money, and reduce stress," she says. "Invest in a supportive office chair, especially if you plan on sitting for several hours in a day. Experts say moving more during the workday and stretching is the best solution."
"Plants have innate positive chi, clear the air of allergens, and really do wonders for us," she says. "Much like caring for animals, caring for plants and the action of planting or watering elevates our chi and makes us true or more grounded." Gordon explains that the balance of elements like water, earth, and fire are important in our homes, which are predominantly filled with the metal element in the 21st century.
Native to tropical Americas, Peace Lily is categorized under the plants family Araceae with scientific name Spathiphyllum, in Feng Shui it is considered as a fortune plant. Spathiphyllum is the super plant in terms of purifying the air, NASA Clean Air Study found that spathiphyllum cleans all types of environmental contaminants including benzene and formaldehyde. It lives best in shade and needs little bright light to thrive, and is watered approximately once a week.

Decorating your office should be fun, but there should also be purpose behind it if you are planning on using feng shui to improve your business. Hang motivational artwork that encourages hard work and team collaborations on the northwest and west walls of your office space. The southwest area of your space, which is the area associated with relationships, on the other hand, should include a minimal amount of family portraits, which can otherwise be distracting. To generate more wealth, place plants in the southeast and east sides of the office, making sure the plants are tall and reach for the sky, such as bamboo. And if you prefer to keep live plants out of your office, you can go with silk versions or even photographs and artwork that will generate the same type of energy. And, finally, on the north wall, put up artwork, or add a small water fountain, that focuses on the energy of moving water. This will serve to energize your career.

I was initially leery about Feng Shui until a friend swore things changed after reading Lillian Too's Living with Good Feng Shui book and applying it into her day-to-day life. Googled it and found a copy from Noon Books (www.noon-books.com). I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, applying it and waiting for positive results. I swear life seems to just "flow" now instead of just "chug along" if you know what I mean. Money comes in from unexpected sources and relationships seem to require no effort. Life just seems happier. I can't explain it, but it works. I guess at the end of the day that's what it all boils down to. Super thankful I stumbled upon this and gave it a chance.
assume the power position. in shui, the ideal placement for a desk is to face the doorway – a little off to the side instead of directly in line with the door. ideally, when arranging an office, we want the solid support of a wall or heavy furniture behind us, like it’s “got our back.” this also allows you to see anyone entering the office which eliminates experiences like not seeing what’s coming up behind you; constant exhaustion; people talking behind your back; and/or feeling left out of the loop.
Of course, fire is the most powerful element and should be used with caution so that no one gets burned. This is true in both the literal and figurative sense with Feng Shui office designs since using actual fire elements can often be dangerous. Therefore, you can use red objects to represent the fire element and should be place in the south section of the room, office space, or building. Lamps and unique lighting can also be used to represent fire elements for the office.

Plants can be a very important element in the Feng Shui of your office. They remove carbon dioxide from the air, leaving behind clean, pure oxygen, which is an important element of Feng Shui. After all, it is impossible to have positive chi if the air you breathe is not healthy. As an added benefit, use of the Feng Shui money plants, such as Sansevieria can bring prosperity into your office, perhaps tipping the odds in your favor on an important business deal, or just making sure you find a penny or two on the floor. If you need office plants that work to bring positive chi into your office, look no further than Gaddys Plant hire. We have all the plants you could ever need. Further, we have specialized maintenance technicians who will come into your office and water, clean, dust, prune and fertilize the plants, as well as replacing any that need it. After all, nothing is gained if your plants are not healthy.

1. Consider painting your office blue. "Color has a huge impact on our emotions," says Benko. Bold colors such as reds can excite and promote aggression and anxiety. "Think about why so many fast food restaurants are painted in reds and oranges," she says. Painting an office environment in these colors will make you want to leave early. The best colors for an office, according to Benko, are pale green to inspire creativity, blue to create a sense of calm, or gray for sophistication.

As a feng shui cure, it is usually placed in the entryway or the southwest corner of the room or establishment to strengthen the energy and flow of money. Jade plants can grow as an indoor or outdoor plant and ideally should be put in a location where they can get direct sunlight. Water them enough to keep their soil moist and regularly dust off their leaves. You can also add pebbles on top of their soil to facilitate the drainage of water.

"A lot of people see white as a neutral, but in Feng Shui it's often perceived as very sharp," says Frampton. "If I'm looking for the fresh crispness of a white, I'll go with a darker white or very light gray instead," she explains, and suggests Benjamin Moore Gray Owl. "It's a super-soft gray that can read as the right kind of white. We use that one all the time."
That said, spending hours working from your couch on weeknights or at your kitchen island on Sunday mornings might not be the most productive thing to do. Studies conducted by Alan Hedge, Ph.D. and CPE at Cornell University, found that a comfortable working environment can do more than make workers happy: It can improve productivity as well. Just like new workout clothes can motivate us to hit the gym more often, an office space with good feng shui can help us work more efficiently.
"Once you have that initial question answered, ask yourself, how many pieces of functional furniture do I really need within my office? This helps weed out unnecessary clutter and guide you to utilize furniture that contributes to your productiveness and sharp focus when occupying that space." The feng shui expert notes that investing time in establishing an office environment that speaks to the level of respect, motivation, and growth you envision for yourself is one of the best and easiest ways to bring good feng shui energy to your space.
"One of the biggest mistakes people make is choosing the color red because they've heard that it's a lucky color and it will 'ward off evil,'" says Benko. "While it's true that red is considered auspicious and it also has authoritative associations (walking the red carpet, wearing a red power tie), the bottom line simply comes down to your own personal connection to that color."
This is consistent with the scientific findings mentioned above, where plants are used to increase the academic performance of high schoolers. The plant suggested by feng shui is the “lucky bamboo”, where four straight bamboos are placed in the Wen Chang area. You will find more details about this in the section below: Where to Place Indoor Plants.
If you are not feeling quite right in your office, it could be time for a feng shui overhaul. Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system to help organize your life to promote the flow of energy. Applying these principles to your office will help increase productivity lower stress. Simple things such as removing clutter from your desktop, choosing the right paint colors or artwork, and keeping the right elemental balance of objects in your office all make a surprisingly large impact on your work day.

6. Restroom. Using a person’s Kua, the restroom can be BOTH a good and a bad place for plants. Plants in a restroom located in an “inauspicious” or “unlucky” area have the ability to amplify the negative energy of that area. On the other hand, for restrooms in “auspicious” or “lucky” areas, plants have the ability to amplify the positive energy, which can counter the negative feng shui brought by the restroom.
Well, qi needs to flow harmoniously in order for you to be happy, and live in line with your desires. So, feng shui divides your environment – your entire home and each specific room – into eight areas. Within these areas, feng shui seeks to balance the five key elements of wood, fire, water, earth, and metal, in order to encourage positive energy to flow.
Even if your dream color looked perfect in the store, and passed all the tests when it comes to your view, your goals, and so on, it can read the wrong way once you're at home. "Sample three colors — the one you love, than one warmer and one cooler. Get a test pot or small sample and paint a 12" square on your wall. Observe it at different times of day before you make your final decision."
Out of all possible materials—wood, glass, laminate, and metal—a wood desk is definitely the best feng shui choice. Not only it brings natural energy into your space, it also has both nourishing, as well as a vibrant quality of energy. If you want to understand deeper the feng shui properties of wood, look into the Wood feng shui element it represents.

Alison, thanks for writing. My desk in my home office also faces a wall so I know whereof you speak. If you can’t turn things around by separating the arms of the “L” and using one arm in the Command Position, place a mirror on or near the desk to reflect activity behind you. Here’s a link to a previous post about this: http://openspacesfengshui.com/feng-shui-tips/2010/02/feng-shui-office-command-position/ Good luck!
Native to Central and South America, Pachira is one of the popular Feng Shui plants. Its scientific name is Pachira Aquatica in the family Malvaceae. It is popular Feng Shui luck bringer plant which attracts money, there is a famous tale of a poor farmer from Taiwan who prayed for money and found this plant on his way to home, he took it as an omen and made money by selling plants grown from its seeds, soon after he became very rich.
Feng shui philosophy tells us to position the desk so that you are in command of the room. Essentially, this means your back shouldn't be facing the door. Beyond the biological aspect of feeling less innately safe with our back to the door, there’s a lot of feng shui lore about this position allowing for things to happen at work "behind your back."
