Work stress counts as one of the most common ailments suffered by many urbanites today. Getting help to ensure a smooth workyear ahead is always a good thing, which is why many deskbound employees are beginning to place emphasis on creating a workdesk that is primed for success, with the aid of Chinese metaphysics. Here are a few pearls of ancient wisdom to clear the energy in the office and give your career a boost.
Once you have a full view of any incoming opportunities, it’s time to tackle the desk's surface. Chances are there’s a bit of clutter, which Cerrano defines as “anything unfinished, unresolved, tolerated, or disorganized.” Clear the clutter and organize things in a way that suits your work style and personal preferences. Cerrano suggests organizing by date or category, using colored binders if that appeals to you. Getting organized can boost productivity, while clearing clutter can provide a space that allows creativity to flow Time management for today’s workplace demands. Thomack, B. Plants can be a very important element in the Feng Shui of your office. They remove carbon dioxide from the air, leaving behind clean, pure oxygen, which is an important element of Feng Shui. After all, it is impossible to have positive chi if the air you breathe is not healthy. As an added benefit, use of the Feng Shui money plants, such as Sansevieria can bring prosperity into your office, perhaps tipping the odds in your favor on an important business deal, or just making sure you find a penny or two on the floor. If you need office plants that work to bring positive chi into your office, look no further than Gaddys Plant hire. We have all the plants you could ever need. Further, we have specialized maintenance technicians who will come into your office and water, clean, dust, prune and fertilize the plants, as well as replacing any that need it. After all, nothing is gained if your plants are not healthy.
Alison, thanks for writing. My desk in my home office also faces a wall so I know whereof you speak. If you can’t turn things around by separating the arms of the “L” and using one arm in the Command Position, place a mirror on or near the desk to reflect activity behind you. Here’s a link to a previous post about this: http://openspacesfengshui.com/feng-shui-tips/2010/02/feng-shui-office-command-position/ Good luck!
The wood element colors of green and tan (light browns) are ideal for an east (health luck) or southeast (wealth luck) office since the wood element governs both sectors. In addition, wood fuels fire, so be sure to add splashes of green and brown in a southern office. You may decide to go strictly with these colors for a southern office décor. Blue and green are good color combinations for east and southeast since the water element (blue) nurtures wood (green).
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice that involves arranging your environment in a way that allows the energy (or Chi) to flow smoothly through it. This energy is made up of five elements (Wood, Earth, Fire, Metal, and Water), and its believed that the flow of this energy can have considerable effects on your finances, health, happiness, and personal relationships. Whether you believe that it is the flow of the chi, or that the ancient practice tapped into great design and sense of proportion, the practice can definitely has a positive impact on design.
Native to Africa, snake plant is categorized under the plants family Asparagacea with scientific name Sansevieria, it is very popular houseplant. It has several local names such as snake plant, mother-in-law’s tongue, viper’s bowstring hemp etc. As per Feng Shui, it is considered to bring good luck. It was part of NASA Clean Air Study and found effective in improving indoor air quality by removing benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene.

Thanks for the tip. In my office, we do not have the freedom to choose and shift our desk. So it ended up that this newcomer’s desk was place directly opposite mine and I can immediately feel the fengshui went wrong. I was looking up on what to do since there is no choice about moving desk (we had very limited space) and will definitely try place the barrier (probably use the portable whiteboard and putting plants on my desk)

I see your concern, because Wood controls the Earth element in the Northeast. First, I would check whether your plants are really in the Northeast. You’ll need to divide your floor plan into 8 pieces, according to the 8 cardinal directions. If they’re really in the Northeast, you can either (1) place smaller plants and/or (2) introduce some fire element to weaken the wood energy.
If your working position (whether at home or in the office) is near or backed into a corner, place a small miniature plant in front of your table to bring positive energy to a stagnant area.  You will be able to work better and this will boost your health and stamina. Avoid cactus or any plants with thorns or too many flowers (this could be more of a hindrance than a help). Make sure you use real plants as fake plants can attract negative energy or even lower your current mood and self-esteem.
14. In keeping with the habit of feng shui strategies, be sure to keep your office organized and free of clutter. Clutter saps your energy and your motivation, while a clean and organized space increases your efficiency, enthusiasm, and overall work energy. The free flow of chi will be enhanced significantly without clutter (including electronics cords).
Imagine the desktop divided into a nine-part grid, as in the bagua map shown above. Choose several areas of your life that could use a little boost, and use the following tips to attract good energy to those areas. Each section is associated with a color, and you can use objects of that color if you have them. Just don’t go overboard—remember, clutter blocks creativity, so at least 50 percent of the desktop should be clear at all times. Don’t focus on all nine sections; instead, select two to three priorities.

"In a vase, place a few stalks of bamboos in fresh water," says Gordon. "Place five stalks in a vase for academic achievement and creativity (in your creativity area), place seven stalks in your health and family area, place eight stalks in your wealth area, and nine stalks for overall luck (you can place these anywhere, but it could also be in the center of your home). Don't forget to change the water frequently."
Outer offices: Large offices, especially high-rise offices often have a bank of windows along the outside wall. While it may be tempting to sit with your back to the windows, you will lack the support you need in your work. Place your desk so you have a solid wall behind you. Use a feng shui office layout for auspicious chi energy and success in your career.
Hi thanks for your interesting articles. Really easy to understand. I will like your advice on my new home. I love it except for one thing – when the main door opens it faces the corridor leading directly to my bedroom at rhe end and worse thing is it also faces my bedroom’s open balcony door all in a straight line. What can i do in my bedroom to block the qi from going out? Will a small piece of furniture in my bedroom plus curtains at the balcony door and a big plant in front of the balcony door help? Problem is my balcony faces Southwest. Will really appreciate your advice as it has been troubling me.

"Once you have a clearer vision for the function of your office and understand what pieces of furniture you need, you can establish the arrangement of furniture," says Cerrano. She recommends starting with the desk position and building outward from there. "Essentially, you are looking for the best commanding position, which allows the occupant to literally, energetically, and metaphorically see and feel who and what opportunities are approaching their life. Positioning your desk inside any office could symbolize avoiding collaborations with unbeneficial business partners and signing contracts or agreements that are one-sided."
If possible, place your desk directly opposite the front door of your office. If you don’t have a private office, try to orient your desk to face the main door. Cerrano calls this a “commanding position.” If your boss isn’t willing to accept furniture rearrangement in the name of chi, Cerrano says that arranging a small mirror on your desk to reflect the office’s entrance is the next best thing. “According to the principles of feng shui, this arrangement offers protection and symbolizes you seeing opportunities as they come to you during your career,” Cerrano says. In other words, you have to be able to see opportunities in order to seize them.

The FIVE ELEMENTS (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood) work best when blended together in a harmonious way inside your home. Today, we are focusing on the element of wood (a.k.a plants, flowers, trees, bushes, etc). Not only do they help to spruce up the overall ambiance, they are also scientifically proven to reduce stress, purify the air, improve learning, compassion, speed up the healing process, memory, and communication!

Avoid hanging mirrors in the office or workspace. Especially avoid hanging it behind your back.  This also applies to pictures or anything that strongly reflects/or acts like a mirror. This can cause you to attract complaints and increase the chance of people looking to backstab you. If you need to check your makeup or do up your hair, use a small compact mirror that you can carry around in your purse or bag instead.

13. Add in an air-purifying plant or two. Offices are notorious for high EMF (electromagnetic field) devices, which sap energy and pollute the air. Air purifying plants will help to increase the oxygen available to your brain (a definite bonus while working, we can all agree) as well as refresh the space overall and keep positive energy levels high.
After you map out the sections, ask yourself which parts of your life and/or business are most important to you or perhaps need some more attention. If there is any specific section you want to focus on in your life, try putting items that promote that related section of the bagua map. For instance, if you want to focus on your family, add a photo of them or place a plant in the “Family & Community” section.
