Outer offices: Large offices, especially high-rise offices often have a bank of windows along the outside wall. We tapped Laura Benko, holistic Feng Shui expert and author of The Holistic Home: Feng Shui Your Mind, Body, Spirit, Space, and New York-based interior designer Elena Frampton, who's been a Feng Shui hobbyist since she was a teen, for their most thoughtful advice on the subject. North area (Career or Path in Life). The feng shui element here is Water, so this is the feng shui area for items representing water, as well as Metal (Metal creates Water in the feng shui 5 elements cycle.) Without making it sound too complicated, you can place inspiring images related to your career in black or white frame colors in the North area of your home office.
Good air purifying plants are a must for any workspace! You can choose a beautiful vibrant plant with a stunning pot, for example, in order to maximize its effect on your desk. Crystals are also a very popular feng shui cure, and there are many crystals that are suitable for your office. Various images can be targeted to specific goals, and so can specific items that you have a special connection with.
The feng shui expert notes that paying attention to what you want to attract and visually displaying those goals in your space can have an impact on your overall motivation and subsequent success. "Feng shui encourages you to learn more about yourself and discover the necessary knowledge, skills, and connections that need development for nurturing your goals. As you do this, you become more curious, motivated, inspired, and productive. Those sparks of interest could then be visually translated inside your office to offer an abundance of beneficial psychological cues."
Even if your dream color looked perfect in the store, and passed all the tests when it comes to your view, your goals, and so on, it can read the wrong way once you're at home. "Sample three colors — the one you love, than one warmer and one cooler. Get a test pot or small sample and paint a 12" square on your wall. Observe it at different times of day before you make your final decision."
When it comes to the link between colors and performance, Feng Shui distinguishes between tones which stimulate the mind (gray, white, and muted shades) and those that invigorate the body (brown and bright hues). For this reason, medium-toned wooden desks are considered the best office option as they provide optimal contrast and minimal distraction.
It is not essential to fertilize the plant. If necessary, you can add the African violet fertilizer to improve the growth of the feng shui plant. Feng shui plants play an important role in purifying the surrounding air. It helps to absorb the radiation from the electronic devices. As it is considered as a lucky plant, it helps in relieving you from stress and encourage in doing the work in a relaxed manner.
Benko recalls a client whose family photo was hindering rather than inspiring her. Even though the photo was taken during a vacation, the client revealed it was a very stressful time. "The kids were hungry and they felt forced to pose for the picture, so every time she looked at that picture, subconsciously she was feeling the stress and anxiety of that moment," says Benko.
When you’re setting up your room (or cubicle), you'll want to first look at its layout. Is there an even distribution of furniture on both sides of the room? Is there art only on one wall, or is it sprinkled throughout the space? Is it too bright? Is it too minimalist? How balanced and even do you feel in your workspace? Where and how do things feel off?
