Thanks for the tip. In my office, we do not have the freedom to choose and shift our desk. So it ended up that this newcomer’s desk was place directly opposite mine and I can immediately feel the fengshui went wrong. I was looking up on what to do since there is no choice about moving desk (we had very limited space) and will definitely try place the barrier (probably use the portable whiteboard and putting plants on my desk)

Native to tropical Americas, Peace Lily is categorized under the plants family Araceae with scientific name Spathiphyllum, in Feng Shui it is considered as a fortune plant. Spathiphyllum is the super plant in terms of purifying the air, NASA Clean Air Study found that spathiphyllum cleans all types of environmental contaminants including benzene and formaldehyde. It lives best in shade and needs little bright light to thrive, and is watered approximately once a week.
However, using plants for feng shui can get tricky. You’ll need to factor in the five elements, the type of room, and the directions. It’s not easy, but that’s the only way you can apply feng shui in a holistic way to get the best results that you desired for. Of course, the alternative is to get help from a professional so you won’t overlook any important factors when you feng shui yourself.
Improper lighting: Like the majority of office workers, if you suffer under fluorescent lighting, you can use a couple helpful hints. You may be able to replace the tubes yourself with healthier full-spectrum ones (also called “grow lights”) from the hardware store. If you can’t replace them, bring in some supplemental incandescent light in the form of floor or table lamps. Working solely with overhead light is uncomfortable for the eyes, and supplemental lighting is a source of relief for your eyes and mind.
Native to South Africa, Crassula is the most popular Feng Shui plant. Its scientific name is Crassula ovata in the family Crassulaceae. According to feng shui, a room's color should be in accordance with the cardinal direction it faces. But how do you find that out? "In order to properly assess this direction, stand in the center of your home and with the aid of a compass, find the direction of your home office. Then, choose colors harmonious with that direction." Ready to find the paint color for your workspace that will bring you productivity and prosperity? Brown gives us the lowdown on feng shui office colors according to their cardinal direction.
"Overall, create an environment that highlights you professionally and personally," recommends Cerrano. "Your selection of décor on a subconscious level is an energetic extension of what you are attracting. For example, when I first started my business, I knew my main clients would be from the New York region, yet I was curious in extending my feng shui consulting firm to reach national and international clientele. To align that intention with the surroundings of my home office, I chose to display an antique world map. Within a short period of time, I began attracting clients beyond the New York border."
As for color choices, the feng shui expert explains that it depends on your line of work. "In general, office spaces that require writing, mathematics, and science benefit from wall colors in shades of blue, green, or even beige. These are considered a strong backdrop of color. From there, you could accent the office with artwork, lighting, plants, area rugs, and anything else you need to help achieve the best focus and productivity. To stimulate the energy more, implementing touches of warm colors like red, yellow, and orange can stimulate the creative aspects of our brains. In feng shui and on a practical level, we're always looking to establish a harmonious collaboration of colors."
If your working position (whether at home or in the office) is near or backed into a corner, place a small miniature plant in front of your table to bring positive energy to a stagnant area.  You will be able to work better and this will boost your health and stamina. Avoid cactus or any plants with thorns or too many flowers (this could be more of a hindrance than a help). Make sure you use real plants as fake plants can attract negative energy or even lower your current mood and self-esteem.
The feng shui expert also adds that adding real plants enhances any office energy by naturally cleaning the air, reducing stress, and improving communication. "Bamboo, Boston ferns, English ivy, and rubber trees are great go-to options. Including a couple images of supportive family members or other individuals who inspire you is another great energy booster."
Symbolic for good luck and success due to their innate resilience, strength, and ability to grow quickly, the lucky bamboo plants attempt to balance the five natural feng shui elements in the home or office: wood, metal, earth, water, and fire. These five elements are represented, respectively, by the plant, glass vase or coin, rocks, water, and red ribbon. Lucky bamboo plants can be planted as stalks or grown into beautiful shapes such as pyramids.
Citrus and limes are considered symbols of good health, longevity, wealth, and prosperity. Along with the lucky bamboo and money plants, decorating a citrus or lime in the home during the Chinese New Year is said to foster good fortune for the family and business in the upcoming year. Citrus and limes are frequently grown as a bonsai or bought as artificial plants.
Plants—associated with the wood element—are believed to adjust that balance. "We are wired to feel at ease in the company of nature," she explains. That said, she also warns against having too many plants at home: "When decorating with plants, be mindful that too many wood elements will also stall your thinking process. In order to think and feel clearly, we need other elements in our lives (metal, water, earth, and fire), so don't create a jungle that overrules your house."
I often suggest clients place two lucky bamboo stalks in a single vase of water in the relationship area of their bedroom. To locate this area, stand at your bedroom door facing into the room. The far back corner to the right is the relationship area. The pair symbolizes a harmonious union between you and your current or future partner. Both stalks are best similar in size as they also represent a balanced and equal relationship that can grow together in accord.
Don’t worry about that. I’m guessing that the idea is based on kitchen having the fire element (cooking), and the North having the water element. Not sure why Wood is suggested because it actually weakens water and strengthens fire. Earth should be introduced if using their line of logic. Again, I wouldn’t worry about your kitchen location unless you take your house’s facing direction into consideration.
"Once you have a clearer vision for the function of your office and understand what pieces of furniture you need, you can establish the arrangement of furniture," says Cerrano. She recommends starting with the desk position and building outward from there. "Essentially, you are looking for the best commanding position, which allows the occupant to literally, energetically, and metaphorically see and feel who and what opportunities are approaching their life. Positioning your desk inside any office could symbolize avoiding collaborations with unbeneficial business partners and signing contracts or agreements that are one-sided."

Decorating your office should be fun, but there should also be purpose behind it if you are planning on using feng shui to improve your business. Hang motivational artwork that encourages hard work and team collaborations on the northwest and west walls of your office space. The southwest area of your space, which is the area associated with relationships, on the other hand, should include a minimal amount of family portraits, which can otherwise be distracting. To generate more wealth, place plants in the southeast and east sides of the office, making sure the plants are tall and reach for the sky, such as bamboo. And if you prefer to keep live plants out of your office, you can go with silk versions or even photographs and artwork that will generate the same type of energy. And, finally, on the north wall, put up artwork, or add a small water fountain, that focuses on the energy of moving water. This will serve to energize your career.

If you’re looking for more abundance and prosperity, you can place 3 or 9 stalks in the wealth area of your home, office, or bedroom—or better yet, in all three locations. To locate the wealth area of the feng shui map, stand in the entry door to the home or room. The far back corner on the left side represents wealth, prosperity and abundance. The bamboo will represent positive and steady growth.

Blue is the prime color of the water element, and its low, smooth vibrations always provide feelings of comfort and safety. Lighter blues encourage healing, growth and harmony while darker richer blues promote the deepest levels of solace, calm and serenity. To invoke all of these benefits, paint one wall dark blue and the rest light blue. Because of its calming nature, blue is an ideal color for deadline-oriented office spaces such as press rooms or payroll companies.
Chlorophytum comosum is a flowering perennial herb which falls in asparagaceae plants family, native to southern Africa. It is popular houseplant commonly known as spider plant. It is hardy, easy to care, requires less frequent watering, once in couple of months when it is placed in temperature between 15 -22 degree celsius. Spider plant was part of NASA study and found effective in cleaning formaldehyde, xylene and toluene. It improves indoor air quality and reduces stress, a report published by the university’s Cooperative Extension Service cited spider plant as one of the top varieties for removing VOCs and other pollutants from indoor air.
