1. Do your best not to overwhelm your home and office with too many plants. Looking to the five element theory of feng shui, we are always establishing a harmonious connection with all the elements. If you have too many plants, this could produce the opposite effect of ‘growing’ and stagnant the energy flow. In regard to how a person could react to that energy they may feel; sluggish, impatient, slow and inflexible.

It’s said that the practice of feng shui decorating encourages good chi—also known as positive energy—to flow smoothly through a room, which in turn benefits its occupants. The better the chi, the more cleansing and positive experience your clients will have in counseling. While every room could use feng shui, it is particularly useful in a private practice where clients are coming in for help. The more positive energy, the better!

The second priority is bringing living and flowing energy into your workspace. These features are important ways of compensating for the small size of your space and the constant traffic flows that pass by your cube. If you can bring an odd number of healthy plants into your space, you can stimulate more-active, vibrant energy. Also, a nice fountain near the entrance of your cube can work wonders. Not only can it stimulate more salary coming your way, but also it can help uplift your mood and diffuse any negative flows of chi (human or environmental) in the vicinity of your work space. If space or social realities preclude a fountain, you can get some of the same benefits from a photo (the larger, the better) of flowing water, such as of a waterfall or river.

A reminder, please be mindful of the plant’s health. If it’s not doing so well, do your best to revive it. People often overwater. To avoid this scenario, I suggest you use your finger and feel how moist the soil is. Just poke it in the top about 1-2 inches. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty! Houseplants also add natural beauty to your home, offer positive wood energy, and improve your air quality.
The Phalaeonopsis orchids, or moth orchids, has recently become popular in Asia as a decoration in major business establishments, as Chinese entrepreneurs find them both auspicious and inspiring. In a counseling practice, it’s important your clients feel comfortable and safe in your office, which is why you purchased those extra plush seats, stocked the space with tissues, and hung calming paintings on the wall. You even bring in healthy snacks to keep in your waiting room. But how much thought have you given to the color you painted on those walls? When you rent or lease a space, it’s likely you use whatever color is already on the walls. Even if you recently purchased space for a new practice, changing the wall color may be the very last item on your to-do list. However, it’s time to rethink that decision and use feng shui office colors as the base for decorating your space.
