When you’re setting up your room (or cubicle), you'll want to first look at its layout. Is there an even distribution of furniture on both sides of the room? Is there art only on one wall, or is it sprinkled throughout the space? Is it too bright? Is it too minimalist? How balanced and even do you feel in your workspace? Where and how do things feel off?

The surface of your desk can also be arranged according to feng shui’s bagua. This is essentially a map that can be applied to the surface of your desk just as it would be applied to the floor plan of a home or office. Different areas of the bagua are associated with different areas of your life, and you can focus in on specific areas that need a little bit of a boost.


The interesting thing about feng shui and plants is that science tends to agree – plants are a wonderful choice for a home or office. They not only bring more oxygen into the room but some plants can even help filter out harmful toxins and purify the air. In fact, NASA undertook an entire study on this topic in 1989, with some very interesting findings.6
7. Accelerates Healing and Recovery Process. It turns out that hospital gardens bring natural medical benefits. Namely, it helps patients heal and recover faster. In a study conducted by HortTechnology, patients recovering from abdominal surgery in hospital rooms were tested. They found that the patients exposed to plants and hospital gardens had significantly fewer intakes of postoperative analgesics, more positive physiological responses, and more positive feelings.
assume the power position. in shui, the ideal placement for a desk is to face the doorway – a little off to the side instead of directly in line with the door. ideally, when arranging an office, we want the solid support of a wall or heavy furniture behind us, like it’s “got our back.” this also allows you to see anyone entering the office which eliminates experiences like not seeing what’s coming up behind you; constant exhaustion; people talking behind your back; and/or feeling left out of the loop.
If it’s ok to do this does the height of the cabinets make a difference? I’m considering some that are around 2 metres high, or alternatively some that are 128cm high (these will reach the top of my head or possibly my forehead when I’m sitting), or alternatively lower ones. All the cabinets will be the same height, whichever I choose, and will go along the length of the wall behind the desk.
And, of course, because feng shui is all about energy, there is certainly a lot of emphasis on the actual energy of the plants, starting with their specific look and feel to one of the most important factors - their overall health. Having a popular feng shui plant such as the lucky bamboo, for example, struggling to survive, will be quite bad feng shui as compared to another plant with absolutely no specific feng shui reputation but with a vibrant, alive and joyful energy.
Yellow-tinted and fluorescent lights can make us feel fatigued and dull, and people prone to migraines may find them problematic. Research finds that Compact Fluorescent light bulbs (the twisty ones) may cause skin damage. LED bulbs, the more energy efficient choice, have upsides and downsides as well. They flicker in a hard-to-perceive way that can be disruptive to our eyes and mind, and they contain lots of blue light that can cause eye damage. After a lot of research, I've come to the conclusion that old-school incandescent full-spectrum light bulb may be the best way to go to promote a healthy, harmonious energy. Be sure to shut them off as soon as you leave a room to save energy.
