7. Let there be light. When lighting your bedroom, flexibility is key. You want lots of natural light during the day, soft light in the evening, and darkness while you sleep. In Feng Shui, we use the “commanding position” to locate important furniture such as your bed. The bed is arguably the most important piece of furniture to put in the commanding position because you spend so many passive hours sleeping! To place your bed in the commanding position, you want to be facing the door while not in line with the door while lying in bed. Ideally you can be diagonally across the room from your bedroom door. However, I understand this is not always possible. In that case, find a mirror and place it so that you can see the door while lying in bed. I suggest freestanding mirrors, as they’re easier to move around and get just right.

However, most of us are addicted to our smartphones, and staring at this artificial light before bed is wrecking your sleep. Remove them from easy-access, and you can find your sleep quality improve.

When it comes to moving past a failed relationship, your first order of business is cutting the cord to your last one. “We use the word ‘energy cord,’” Cerrano says. “If you have all this stuff from [a past relationship] scattered through your home, it’s energetically creating a cord to that person. A bedroom is no place for an office. A creative corner, maybe, but a technology-filled, deadline-driven, endless to-do list office? A constant reminder of your unread inbox does not cultivate rest or intimacy. Consider a mobile office that partners a laptop with your dining room table (and attractive storage for all your supplies) before you resort to a bedroom office.
Plants respond to music, light and positive energy. When plants are thriving and blooming with beauty, the energy in your home is abundant and flowing. If plants are browning, sagging or dying, the energy is clogged and stagnant. Plants are very telling of the energy of your home, so keeping them in your environment and taking the time to fill your space with positive energy will keep the energy fluid.
Boost your career with a better desk position. Position your desk cater-corner to and facing the office or cube door (even if you don’t actually have a door in your workspace). If you can’t turn your desk to face the door, arrange a mirror on your desk or wall so you can see who’s coming. This adjustment helps you encounter more opportunities, go further in your field, and lose less often.
Natural light is obviously very important for a genuinely good feng shui energy, too. In case of a space that gets little or no natural light, a very smart and intelligent lighting system (ideally several layers of lighting with at least some full-spectrum lights) will make all the difference.In order to attract (and keep, as well as multiply!) the energy of abundance, you have to create an honestly good quality of energy in your space, there is no way around it.

If there are areas or objects in your home that are collecting dust, it may symbolize areas of your life that are stagnant and ignored. If you don’t need that object, maybe it’s time to donate it. And if there’s a room you haven’t stepped foot in, maybe it’s time to peek inside. It can be as simple as taking the time to move things around to stir up some good energy.

Hello, I have a question about your article: “Feng Shui Tips for Money”. Your article says to replace any broken items in your home. We live in a rented apartment and the landlord did not do the usual fix-ups when the former tenants moved out. We moved in with the blinds broken in all four window, cracked closet doors, the door frame to the master bedroom is broken and won’t stay shut when closed (you can simply push the door open when “closed”, you don’t need to use the door knob to open/close the door), bathroom tiles messed up such that you have a hard time opening/closing the door and the closet inside the bathroom, problems with plumbing and the stove and refrigerator…crayola marks everywhere, cigarette burns in the carpets and you get the idea here. The apartment was in such a poor state, we refused to give the landlord a deposit unless we could do a walk-through with him and get it in writing about all the broken and poor conditions of everything. He had a fit and would not do it. We’ve been living here since late August, 2015. He finally fixed the plumbing issues and our heater. But that’s all he fixed. We are not responsible for any of the other things, so how would your Feng Shui tips to repair broken things in the home really apply in our situation? What would be a “work around” for NOT doing repairs to a rented apartment, when they were already there when we moved into the unit? Also, about the citrine in the windowsill.. we have four large windows, each with a windowsill. Do I put a piece of citrine in just one of them or in all four? If in only one windowsill, which one? It's hard to rest with too much active energy around you. You have to be aware, for example, of what electricity is running behind your bed. Try to minimize it with a battery-operated alarm clock instead of an electric one. Turn off your phone at night and keep it out of the room. No laptop or computer near the bed. An hour before you go to sleep, stop looking at it.
The first step to creating a calm, relaxed environment is making sure your surroundings are clean and clutter-free. Do a deep clean and pull everything out of your closet, vacuum under the bed, and force yourself to get rid of stuff you don't love. "Evaluate what's around you and allow yourself to streamline," Brophy says. "If you have clothes you know you'll never wear again, give them to charity. Don't let them take up your energy."

Get a supportive mattress. There are a variety of mattresses on the market, choose wisely and invest in the one that will promote best sleep and relaxation. The better you sleep at night, the better your health during the day, this is really simple. Be mindful of good Feng Shui and do not buy used mattresses - you never know what energy they have accumulated from previous owners.

The #1 good feng shui bedroom layout is with the so-called feng shui commanding position of the bed. A bed in a feng shui commanding position is placed diagonally from the bedroom door and has a solid wall behind it. It has a good solid headboard, good grounding energy on both sides (the nightstands do not have to be identical, not at all, you can be as creative as you feel like, but be sure the bed is supported/grounded on both sides.)
Use your feng shui birth element to help create a home that nourishes and supports your energy. For example, if your birth element is Fire, you can introduce the expressions of the Fire element, such as triangular shapes or the Fire colors: red, orange, purple, magenta, pink, and yellow. You will also want a strong Wood element in your home, as Wood feeds the Fire element in the productive cycle of the five feng shui elements.
