EDGEWATER, a modest slip of a city beside the Hudson -- it's three miles long and just three-quarters of a mile wide -- has enjoyed a growth spurt over the last 15 years, gaining fine dining establishments and high-class shops, and doubling its population to nearly 10,000. Now, a developer has decided that Edgewater is ready for a Manhattan-style condominium tower.
For example, when I think of a lifelong love partnership, I can come up with many images, none of them being the Mandarin ducks (the traditional feng shui representation of love & marriage). This is because I have no cultural or emotional connections to this image. However, for many Chinese people, the image of Mandarin ducks will genuinely speak of devoted love because there is strong cultural lore connected to this image. This means that approaching feng shui in an intelligent way and with a good dose of healthy discrimination is the cornerstone of successful feng shui work.
Rearrange furniture to help the chi energy to move freely around your house. Visualize the chi energy as water entering your home and attempting to flow from room to room. Move the furniture out of the natural pathways and don't overcrowd rooms with furniture. Leave space enough between pieces of furniture so the chi energy can move about the entire room.

Sha Chi is anything unpleasant that brings negative energy: a smelly pile of dirty laundry, harsh overhead lighting, clutter, dirt, or unclean bed linens. Charge your phone or tablet elsewhere to eliminate unwanted magnetic radiation, and wake up to a soundless (no tick tock!) clock with a gradual alarm like this one. Rid your room of anything dangerous, such as a rickety ceiling fan or a shelf with heavy objects mounted over your head.
Your bedroom is your shelter from the storm. Delight the five senses by filling it with anything soft, sensuous, or soothing: soft rugs for your cold feet, a luxurious faux fur throw, fluffy down pillows and duvets, scents from essential oils, a luxe velvet robe, the softest silk negligee, a cluster of candles or a low wattage lamp, and a record player with an old record collection waiting nearby.
Decluttering must be thorough—simply hiding your stuff won’t cut it. Items under the furniture, overloaded bookcases and closets, and outdated or broken items all affect chi flow. It’s time to clear out closets, the space under the bed and all cabinets and shelves. Keep only the items you love—or ones that have special meaning—and discard or donate the old and unused.

If you can part with having electromagnetic field appliances in your bedroom altogether, that's even better, says Cerrano. "Choosing to leave those types of EMF appliances within your bedroom during sleep increases interference with your circadian rhythm. This is especially true with young children and adolescents," she adds. "Making it an evening habit to turn off your Wi-Fi before going to sleep is another way to help reduce radio frequency pollution," she suggests.


To ensure the constant flow of good energy throughout the home, wind (air) and light must move as well. You’ve decluttered your home in step one, making it easier for energy to flow. Now open the windows to increase air flow. Maximize light movement by keeping all glass, mirrors and windows clean. Have a dark corner or space that needs a little brightening? Add a lamp to illuminate the spot, or place a mirror to reflect light from a different spot.
Have inspiring art in your bedroom. Hang up images of calming scenes from nature, or other places that inspire you. Pick some neutral scenery, an image that motivates you to achieve your dreams, or something else that puts you in a calm and peaceful frame of mind. Anything too graphic, gory or just disturbing does not belong in your bedroom. Place the most inspiring image across from your line of sight in the bed, so that it's the first thing you see when you wake up.[7]
"You should always be able to control the level of light in your bedroom," Brophy says. She recommends having lights on a dimmer, so you can have exactly as much or as little light as you want. "Lighting has such an effect on our moods and energy. I tell people to buy a few different kind of light bulbs and test them out," she says. "See what kind of light works best for you."
In feng shui, it's said that mirrors in front of the bed invite a third person into the marriage. Mirrors are also thought to reflect energy around a space, which could disrupt your sleep. If you do need to have a mirror, make sure it's facing something that you love looking at. (This may seem like common sense, but it's something a lot of us forget about!)
You'll also want to consult a Bagua map to see what elements to pull into your space. Locate what Bagua your bedroom is located in relationship to the front door of your house, and add accessories accordingly. For example, if your bedroom falls in the Health and Family area, where the dominant element is wood, try to incorporate greens and blues in order to sustain that element.
The "form" in Form School refers to the shape of the environment, such as mountains, rivers, plateaus, buildings, and general surroundings.
